Stevens for Senate Fundraiser Draws Huge Crowd

By: Patrick Kerley
Date: October 27, 2008

Senator Ted Stevens re-election campaign moved forward full steam ahead today and held its previously scheduled fundraiser in Anchorage. More than 250 people turned out, the second largest fundraiser for the Senator since he announced his intention to run for re-election in November 2006.

Senator Stevens surprised guests by calling in and rallying support. “I intend to come home Wednesday, campaign for a week, and win this election,” Stevens told a cheering crowd.

Attending the fundraiser were Senator Stevens’ colleagues, Senator Lisa Murkowski and Congressmen Don Young. Both urged Senator Stevens and his supporters to keep fighting for Alaska.

Become a Home Headquarters

By: Patrick Kerley
Date: September 21, 2008

It has been two seeks since we first started asking Alaskans to help us spread the word about this campaign in their own homes. Almost 100 families from across the state have taken action and volunteered to become a home headquarters for Senator Stevens.

We hope to make this the biggest grassroots effort ever in Alaska. From Bettles Field to Cooper Landing, Kivalina to Unalakleet, Alaskans are making sure their neighbors get the facts on Senator Stevens.

We just opened our first Anchorage home headquarters in the Turnagain neighborhood. Anchorage-based television reporters and supporters alike packed into Pauline Marten’s living room as Senator Stevens spoke to the crowd. Here is a video of the Senator discussing the program and greeting supporters:

We need your help to reach our goal of a Home Headquarters in every community in Alaska. There are more than 400 polling precincts and we want to make sure Alaskans have a source for signs, buttons, and information in every one of them.

To participate, please email Janel Causey, the campaign’s Outreach Corrdinator, at janel@tedstevens2008.com or call our campaign office at (907) 339-8903.

Letter to the Editor: Axing Stevens bad for Alaska

By: Patrick Kerley
Date: August 11, 2008

From the Anchorage Daily News –

I am, politically speaking, a pragmatic centrist, which in Alaska puts me on the left. I have voted for Ted Stevens six times in my life. I am voting for him again this fall.

Ted has been one of the most powerful figures in Washington for at least 20 years. In that time, there have been no serious allegations of wrongdoing. Ted has worked like nobody else for the people of our state: all creeds and ethnicities, men and women, urban and rural, R’s or D’s. He takes care of our needs.

If we turn him out, be prepared for the results: closure of military bases and redeployment of military assets out of Alaska, decline of federal support for our world’s best fisheries management, reduction of federal dollars for critical infrastructure (roads, bridges, ports, etc.), dismantling of programs for the Bush. There is no facet of life in Alaska that has not been positively affected by Ted Stevens. The Senate operates on seniority, and Ted has it in spades. To turn him out over a couple of hundred thousand dollars of undisclosed gifts would be disastrous for our state, even worse than replacing Ernest Gruening with Mike Gravel in the ’60s. Voters, please get real. Don’t kill the golden goose.

Fairbanks Rally

By: Patrick Kerley
Date: August 8, 2008

From Aaron –

Friday was a great day in Fairbanks. About 25 supporters turned out at the airport to warmly welcome Senator Stevens to town. He then got a Harley escort (despite the pouring rain) to his campaign headquarters where 75 people were gathered. He was greeted with a boisterous cheer.

The Senator was also the keynote speaker at the weekly Republican Women’s luncheon. In the room next door Fairbanks Democrats held their luncheon. They also greeted the Senator with hugs and handshakes! One thing was clear: the support for Senator Stevens is very strong in Fairbanks.

(Photos soon!)
