Amongst the attacks being launched nowadays, we hear about how Senator Stevens has lost effectiveness. Somehow, being in the minority party of the Senate undoes 40 years of seniority in the eyes of some. We have seen recently, a lot of evidence to the contrary:
From the Wall Street Journal’s Washington Wire –
Despite facing federal corruption charges, Sen. Ted Stevens managed to win more special-interest spending for his state this year than any other lawmaker, according to a new analysis released by a nonpartisan budget watchdog.
In spending bills released today, the Alaska Republican scored more than $238.5 million in earmarks, Taxpayers for Common Sense found. Previously, Senator Stevens has helped secure funding for geothermal projects in Akutan and Dutch Harbor.

Everyone’s favorite “Alaskan Abroad” has done a write up on Senator Stevens’ energy amendment and the road blocks being thrown up by Democratic leadership (which I covered earlier today.)
“Despite the standoff, Stevens appears to smell Democratic blood in the water and is standing firm on opening the ANWR coastal plain to development.
“‘They are not going to be around [next year] if they continue to oppose allowing us to vote on increasing domestic supply,’ Stevens said of Democrats. ‘Democrats need to get out of our way and allow us to develop our state.’”
