It has been a busy few days! After the incredible rally in Anchorage on Wednesday night, Preston and I flew to Fairbanks with my Dad. We were thrilled to see so many people at our rally at the Westmark!

Wednesday’s rally in Anchorage was an huge success. Even the New York Times took notice, calling it a “hero’s welcome.” You can see from the photo that hundreds of people showed up and there were cars lining the street for quite a ways.

Attending the fundraiser were Senator Stevens’ colleagues, Senator Lisa Murkowski and Congressmen Don Young. Both urged Senator Stevens and his supporters to keep fighting for Alaska.

Democrats’ attacks are indecent
I am just sick and tired about Democrats lashing out on Gov. Palin and Sen. Stevens. The governor is on a campaign trail. Does she have the time to find bargains just to satisfy the media? Does Sen. Stevens have the time to chase down a house contractor to see if he is ripping him off?
Have we lost our decency?

My wife and I are mainly involved with veterans’ affairs — and no one has done more than Sen. Ted Stevens in that area. But Stevens has touched so many areas: health (community health aides and telemedicine), fisheries (200-mile-limit act), aviation (the Medallion program) and Medicare (doctors in Alaska will received 35 percent more to treat us than doctors in the Lower 48 receive to treat their patients), to name a few of Stevens’ accomplishments.

I am one of the many old-time Alaskans Sen. Stevens has helped during his years in office. Back in 1985 my husband, who had worked for the federal government, died suddenly, and it was imperative that I receive the money due him to continue to raise my family. I had been given the runaround for a very long time. In those days, before instant computer answers, it could take weeks and months to get answers.

I read with interest Tuesday’s Anchorage Daily News article titled “Alaska Medicare patients rejected by doctors,” that discussed the need for greater access to medical providers and innovative ideas for the state to consider for increasing medical providers. One thing that your article left out, however, was the 35 percent permanent increase in Medicare reimbursements that was secured by the Alaska congressional delegation, led by Sen. Ted Stevens, this past July.
