Lily gives us this update from the campaign trail: It has been a busy few days! After the incredible rally in Anchorage on Wednesday night, Preston and I flew to Fairbanks with my Dad. We were thrilled to see so many people at our rally at the Westmark! From Fairbanks I flew to Barrow with Senator Murkowski. Though it was a quick overnight trip, we were able to visit with many of Dad’s friends and supporters at Pepe’s. One comment I heard particularly stuck out in my head. A Barrow resident told the gathered crowd that as we look to…

Wednesday’s rally in Anchorage was an huge success. Even the New York Times took notice, calling it a “hero’s welcome.” You can see from the photo that hundreds of people showed up and there were cars lining the street for quite a ways.

We have a bunch of photos and video from the event. We hope you enjoy!

Stevens for Senate Fundraiser Draws Huge Crowd

Senator Ted Stevens re-election campaign moved forward full steam ahead today and held its previously scheduled fundraiser in Anchorage. More than 250 people turned out, the second largest fundraiser for the Senator since he announced his intention to run for re-election in November 2006.

Senator Stevens surprised guests by calling in and rallying support. “I intend to come home Wednesday, campaign for a week, and win this election,” Stevens told a cheering crowd.

Attending the fundraiser were Senator Stevens’ colleagues, Senator Lisa Murkowski and Congressmen Don Young. Both urged Senator Stevens and his supporters to keep fighting for Alaska.

Mark Begich held a press conference last week where he went after Senator Stevens’ family. “The gloves are off” we are told. I am sure we will have more to say about that – after all, when you break almost all your campaign promises in one afternoon, it merits a response. But before all that, let me take a minute to ruminate on the difference in how the campaigns treat people. First, Senator Stevens campaign. Starting early in the season, the Senator had a Democrat video tracker following him everywhere and taping his press appearances. Drew was always respectful and…

From the ADN –

	Democrats’ attacks are indecent

I am just sick and tired about Democrats lashing out on Gov. Palin and Sen. Stevens. The governor is on a campaign trail. Does she have the time to find bargains just to satisfy the media? Does Sen. Stevens have the time to chase down a house contractor to see if he is ripping him off?

	Have we lost our decency?

From the ADN – Alaskans should support Stevens My wife and I are mainly involved with veterans’ affairs — and no one has done more than Sen. Ted Stevens in that area. But Stevens has touched so many areas: health (community health aides and telemedicine), fisheries (200-mile-limit act), aviation (the Medallion program) and Medicare (doctors in Alaska will received 35 percent more to treat us than doctors in the Lower 48 receive to treat their patients), to name a few of Stevens’ accomplishments. I call on my fellow Alaskans to stand up and be counted for Sen. Ted.…

From the ADN – Stevens has always helped Alaska I am one of the many old-time Alaskans Sen. Stevens has helped during his years in office. Back in 1985 my husband, who had worked for the federal government, died suddenly, and it was imperative that I receive the money due him to continue to raise my family. I had been given the runaround for a very long time. In those days, before instant computer answers, it could take weeks and months to get answers. A call to Stevens’ office got the ball rolling and the matter brought to…

From the ADN – My vision of Washington D.C. should Mark Begich and Ethan Berkowitz win this coming election: Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed et al. will stand them up in a corner and let them know that if they get out of line and do not perform like the rest of the Democrats, they will wind up like Joe Lieberman, a man without a party. They will demand that they be Democrats first, Alaskans second and U.S. citizens third, just like the rest of them. There will never be drilling in ANWR or anywhere else, even if…

From the ADN – I read with interest Tuesday’s Anchorage Daily News article titled “Alaska Medicare patients rejected by doctors,” that discussed the need for greater access to medical providers and innovative ideas for the state to consider for increasing medical providers. One thing that your article left out, however, was the 35 percent permanent increase in Medicare reimbursements that was secured by the Alaska congressional delegation, led by Sen. Ted Stevens, this past July. The reimbursements increase was included in the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act, which blocked a 10 percent cut in Medicare physician…
