During one of his visits to AFN about 6 or so years ago, Senator Stevens talked to Native Leaders about their need to increase accountability for earmarks he’s been getting for villages.
He stated that we need to be more proactive in using the funds he’s gotten for communities and show that the money is being used for what is was meant to be used for – housing, water/sewer, etc.
His words inspired me to begin providing grants management and technical assistance to Tribes – so I started my own business which is Native Woman Owned and Operated…

Ted did a lot of good work for the Alaska Native Corporations and their ability to get government cotracts. There are tens of thousands of people around the U.S. and in different countries that are working in good paying jobs for Alaska Native Corporations. On Election Day, we all should vote for Ted.

When I was twelve years old, in the 7th grade, and living in Fairbanks, I was assigned to write an essay on any political candidate in the news at the time. I chose Senator Stevens as my subject.
I went to a rally for Senator Stevens held at AlaskaLand and afterwards, approached Senator Stevens with a question or two for my paper. I do not have a heartfelt story about Senator Stevens, but this simply shows that no matter how big or small your status was, he was willing to help.
My family has lived in Alaska since 1978. I have grown up listening to Senator Stevens and watching him fight for our state for a very long time. I hope Senator Stevens wins this election. I am an Alaska Native and a leader and a Democrat. I was going to vote for your rival, but the Outsiders back them and that changed my mind pretty quickly. The Outsiders are anti this, anti that. Thanks for all the things you done for rural Alaska.
